eBay vs Superbuy
| eBay (Chinese sellers) | Superbuy | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Markup over Taobao | Chinese domestic price + shipping |
| Buyer protection | eBay's money-back guarantee | Inspect before shipping; card chargeback |
| Parcels | One per seller | One consolidated parcel |

| Second-hand | Global second-hand market | Xianyu, CN¥20 per item |
Buyer protection vs inspection
eBay's strength is its guarantee and familiar dispute process. Superbuy's strength comes earlier: warehouse photos of your actual item before it leaves China, and the chance to return it to the seller then. Different tools for the same worry.
Import charges
Many marketplaces now show or collect import VAT at checkout for low-value goods, especially for the UK, EU and Australia. For US buyers, duty applies to every China-origin parcel since May 2025. Several separate eBay parcels can mean several sets of charges, where a consolidated Superbuy parcel pays once.
Second-hand: eBay or Xianyu?
For Chinese second-hand goods such as collectibles, figures, electronics and books, Xianyu (Goofish) is China's giant resale market, and Superbuy buys on it for a flat CN¥20 per item. Our Superbuy Xianyu guide explains how, and when the fee is worth it.
A quick example
Four small electronics accessories from different eBay sellers in China might arrive as four parcels, each with its own shipping, and in some countries each with its own import charge or handling fee. Bought on Taobao through Superbuy, they'd arrive as one parcel with one set of charges. On Superbuy's UPS Economy example, a 1 kg parcel costs CN¥408 including clearance; whether that beats four eBay listings depends on their prices, but the fewer parcels, the fewer fixed fees.
Spotting China-based sellers on eBay
Item location, long delivery estimates and seller names are the usual clues. There's nothing wrong with buying from them, and eBay's guarantee applies, but if you're paying a markup for an item made and shipped in China, it's worth checking whether the same listing exists on Taobao at a domestic price.
When eBay makes more sense
Buying a single item, wanting easy returns, or buying from a seller with a long eBay feedback history. When the item isn't on eBay, or you're buying several, Superbuy is worth pricing.
eBay FAQ
Is Taobao via Superbuy cheaper than eBay?
Per item, usually yes: Chinese sellers on eBay charge a markup over Taobao's domestic prices. Superbuy adds shipping and duty on top, but its Taobao fee is CN¥0 and one consolidated parcel spreads those costs. On Superbuy's UPS Economy example, a 1 kg parcel costs CN¥408 including clearance. The more items you buy, the bigger Superbuy's advantage, so price it for any multi-item order.
Does eBay collect import charges?
Often, yes. Many marketplaces, eBay among them, now show or collect import VAT at checkout on low-value goods, especially for the UK, EU and Australia. US buyers have owed duty on every China-origin parcel since May 2025. Several separate eBay parcels can mean several sets of charges, while a consolidated Superbuy parcel pays once. Check the checkout breakdown before assuming eBay works out cheaper.
What is the Chinese eBay?
The closest match is Xianyu, also called Goofish, China's giant second-hand marketplace for collectibles, figures, electronics, books and more. Superbuy buys on it for a flat CN¥20 per item, on top of the item price and shipping. Our Superbuy Xianyu guide explains the process and when the fee pays off. For Chinese second-hand goods, Xianyu via Superbuy is usually where to look.
Which has better buyer protection?
They protect you at different stages. eBay's money-back guarantee and familiar dispute process help after delivery. Superbuy's protection comes earlier: warehouse photos of your actual item, and the chance to send it back to the seller before it leaves China, with detailed photos at CN¥2 each if you want more. For one item, eBay's guarantee is simpler; for a haul, Superbuy catches problems sooner.
Can Superbuy buy from eBay?
No. Superbuy buys from Chinese platforms such as Taobao, Tmall, JD, 1688, Weidian and Xianyu, and eBay already ships internationally, so an agent adds nothing there. If an eBay listing comes from a seller in China, search for the same item on Taobao, where it's often sold at the domestic price, and order it through Superbuy with a CN¥0 Taobao fee instead.
Why do eBay orders from China take several parcels?
Each eBay seller ships separately, so four accessories from four China-based sellers can arrive as four parcels, each with its own shipping and, in some countries, its own import charge or handling fee. Superbuy collects items from different Taobao shops in its warehouse and sends one parcel with one set of charges. If you're buying from several sellers, consolidation is the main reason to use Superbuy.
Is eBay safer than Superbuy?
Neither is simply safer. eBay's guarantee covers problems after delivery, while Superbuy lets you check warehouse photos and return items to the seller before international shipping. Superbuy has operated since 2012 and holds a 4★ Trustpilot score from 1,000+ reviews. Whichever you use, pay with a card that has chargeback rights, which gives you a backstop if a dispute goes nowhere.
How long do eBay orders from China take?
Direct shipments from China-based eBay sellers usually take one to several weeks, and long delivery estimates are one clue that a seller is in China. Superbuy parcels also take weeks, since items travel to the warehouse first and then ship abroad on the line you choose. The difference is that one Superbuy parcel can cover many shops, so for several items its wait is easier to justify.
Can I buy collectibles cheaper through Superbuy than eBay?
Often, for items sold in China, especially second-hand pieces on Xianyu listed by local sellers. Before comparing, add Superbuy's CN¥20 per-item Xianyu fee, domestic delivery, international shipping and duty to the price. For one cheap collectible, that CN¥20 can wipe out the saving; for pricier items or several pieces in one parcel, Superbuy is much more likely to come out ahead.
Can I find eBay collectibles on Xianyu?
Often, especially Chinese releases of figures, collectibles, electronics and books, since Xianyu (Goofish) is China's biggest resale market. Searching in Chinese usually turns up more listings, and condition photos deserve a careful look. Superbuy buys Xianyu items for CN¥20 each and shows warehouse photos once they arrive. Confirm details with the seller before paying, because private sellers rarely take returns.
Do eBay sellers in China ship faster than Superbuy?
For a single item, often yes: a direct eBay shipment skips the warehouse step. Superbuy needs time for the seller to send items to its warehouse, for stocking, normally within 24 hours of arrival, and then for the international line. That makes Superbuy slower per order, but one parcel can hold many shops. Choose eBay when speed on one item matters; choose Superbuy for hauls.
Does Superbuy offer buyer protection like eBay?
Not in the same form. Superbuy has no eBay-style money-back guarantee; instead you check free QC photos once items are stocked, add a CN¥5.50 detailed inspection if needed, and ask for a return to the seller before international shipping. After the parcel leaves China, your card's chargeback process is the main backstop. Inspect carefully before you pay for shipping.
Is buying on Xianyu through Superbuy safe?
It runs like any Superbuy order: Superbuy buys the item for CN¥20 per item, it arrives at the warehouse and you see photos before shipping. The difference is the seller. Private Xianyu sellers rarely accept returns, so ask about condition, completeness and size in the order remark before paying. For expensive second-hand items, add detailed photos at CN¥2 each before you ship.
Do eBay prices include VAT for UK buyers?
For low-value goods sent to the UK, VAT is generally charged at checkout on marketplaces like eBay, so the price you see usually includes it. Some Superbuy UK lines also show VAT-inclusive prices for parcels up to £135. Compare like with like, eBay's total against Superbuy's item cost plus a VAT-inclusive line, and see our UK shipping page for details.
