No. Superbuy took PayPal offline in an "emergency" notice in April 2024 and then published an "Urgent Removal of PayPal Payment Method" notice on its forum on 21 October 2024. The payment options Superbuy lists on its site today are Wise, international credit and debit cards (Visa is shown), Alipay, WeChat Pay and UnionPay. Which Superbuy payment method should you use?
| Method | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Credit card | Buyer protection through your card issuer's chargeback process | Your bank may add a foreign transaction fee and may block the first cross-border payment |
| Debit card | Simple, no credit needed | Weaker dispute rights than credit cards in many countries |
| Wise | Exchange rates close to mid-market, useful for bigger orders | A transfer, not a card payment, so less protection if something goes wrong |
| Alipay / WeChat Pay | Buyers who already hold a verified Chinese wallet | Setting one up just for Superbuy is rarely worth it |
Two habits matter more than the method. Top up only what the current order needs, so a verification hold doesn't lock up a large balance. And pay only inside superbuy.com or the official app; nobody from Superbuy will ask you to pay by bank transfer in a chat.
Why does a Superbuy payment fail?
When a top-up fails, the cause is usually one of three things, and the fix depends on which:
- Your bank blocked it. Cross-border payments to a Chinese merchant often trip fraud checks. Approve the transaction in your banking app or call the bank, then retry.
- Superbuy's risk check flagged it. Messages mentioning "high risk" payments come from Superbuy's side. Some customers report being asked for ID, card ownership documents or proof of payment before the payment or order is released. Completing the request, or trying a different method, is the way through.
- Card details or 3-D Secure. A mistyped billing address or an expired card, or a 3-D Secure prompt that timed out, looks like a failure. Try again with the bank's app open.
What about old PayPal refunds and balances?
If you topped up with PayPal before the removal, that money sits in your Superbuy balance like any other top-up and can be spent on orders and shipping. For refunds to an original PayPal payment, or withdrawing balance, contact Superbuy support with the transaction details; this is account-specific and only Superbuy can see it.
Why did Superbuy drop PayPal?
Superbuy's notice titles don't give a public reason, so we won't guess one for them. What's well documented in general is that PayPal applies strict risk rules to merchants with high dispute volumes and cross-border sales, and several shopping agents have lost or dropped PayPal over the years. For you as a buyer the practical point is the same: don't choose an agent in 2026 on the assumption that PayPal will be at checkout.
Do other agents still take PayPal?
Some do, and payment options change often. If PayPal is a hard requirement, check each agent's current top-up page rather than a comparison article, including ours. Our Superbuy alternatives page covers which agents are still operating; confirm payment methods on the agent's own site before you sign up.
How to top up Superbuy with a card, step by step
- Work out what the order needsItem price plus China delivery for Stage 1 (Taobao orders carry no service fee), or the shipping quote for Stage 2. Top up that, not a round big number.
- Open the top-up page in your accountChoose card, and check which currency the charge will be made in before confirming.
- Keep your banking app openMost European and UK cards need 3-D Secure approval; many US banks send a fraud alert on the first cross-border charge.
- Check the balance landedThen pay the order from your Superbuy balance.
What does paying Superbuy cost in fees and exchange rates?
Superbuy prices everything in yuan (CN¥) and you can switch the display to US dollars. Whatever method you use, two costs sit on top of the price: the exchange rate applied to your money, and any fee your own bank charges for a foreign-currency or cross-border transaction. Many standard cards add a foreign transaction fee of a few percent; travel-focused cards and Wise usually cost less. On a CN¥500 order the difference between a poor and a good exchange route can be larger than any Superbuy coupon, so it's worth checking once which of your cards is cheapest abroad and using that one.
Paying for shipping without PayPal
Stage 2, the international shipping charge, is paid from your Superbuy balance in the same way as orders. It's charged up front on the estimated weight and reconciled against the carrier's final bill afterwards, so a small second payment may be due if the final weight is higher, and any overpayment comes back to your balance. If a shipping payment fails at the last step, the same fixes apply as for any top-up: approve it in your banking app, check the card's billing address, or switch to Wise.
Superbuy PayPal FAQ
Does Superbuy accept PayPal in 2026?
No. Superbuy posted an emergency notice taking PayPal offline in April 2024, then an 'Urgent Removal of PayPal Payment Method' notice on 21 October 2024. On 30 September 2026 its site footer listed Wise, international credit and debit cards, Alipay, WeChat Pay and UnionPay instead. Any guide still telling you to pay with PayPal predates late 2024, so plan on a card or Wise.
Can I use Apple Pay on Superbuy?
It isn't among the methods in superbuy.com's payment footer, which on 30 September 2026 showed Wise, cards, Alipay, WeChat Pay and UnionPay. Availability can vary by country, account and app version, so look at the payment options in your own account before checkout. If Apple Pay isn't offered, a credit card with no foreign transaction fee is the practical substitute.
What is the safest way to pay Superbuy without PayPal?
A credit card comes closest to PayPal's buyer protection, because your card issuer can run a chargeback if something goes wrong. Wise gives exchange rates near mid-market but is a transfer, so protection is weaker. Pay only for the order in front of you, and only inside superbuy.com or the official app. A no-foreign-fee credit card is the best all-round choice.
Why does Superbuy say my payment is high risk?
That message comes from Superbuy's own payment risk checks, not from your bank. Some customers report being asked for ID, card ownership documents or proof of payment before the payment or order is released. Complete the request, or switch to Wise or another card. If a card fails twice, stop retrying, because repeated attempts look riskier to both sides, and call your bank.
Why does my card payment to Superbuy keep failing?
Usually one of three things. Your bank may block the first cross-border payment to a Chinese merchant, so approve it in your banking app. Superbuy's risk check may flag it and ask for documents. Or a mistyped billing address, an expired card or a timed-out 3-D Secure prompt looks like a failure. Keep the banking app open, retry once, then try Wise.
